what is the correct way of installing the 2-piece 'OFT' stainless steel grease tray?
Picture
1. Here you see the new two part system. The tray on the left has the half moon cut out for the thermal sensor. This is the bottom tray. The tray on the right will go on top of the bottom tray in the fitted squares.
Picture
3. The top portion of the grease tray is positioned in the “closed” position. The grease tray is simply meant to move left and right over the square corners of the bottom portion of the grease tray. For all cooking under 175C (350F), you will want to use this closed method. In addition, you can lay aluminium foil over the area.
Picture
2. Here, you can see the correct positioning of the bottom portion of the two part grease tray with the half moon cut out to the left around the thermal sensor.
Picture
4. This position is meant for “open” sear grilling to allow more heat up into the grates. This method can be used for any temperatures above 175C (350F). By the same token, do not use to cook at low temperature - excess grease will collect in the bottom of the oven, which may cause a grease fire.
what is the correct height of the chimney cap?

In the summer adjust to 1.5” or about two finger widths.

During the winter months you’re going to want to adjust your chimney cap to .5” or about one finger width.

Measurement is from the bottom edge of the chimney cap cone to the top of the chimney stack.

To adjust, loosen nut at base of the screw (shown in picture) then, adjust the nut on the top of the chimney cap either up or down. Tighten set screw to secure in place.

how do i set up the heat deflectors place in the bottom of my grill?
If your Daniel Boone or Jim Bowie was supplied with Heat Deflectors as well as the Heat Shield, use them optionally by installing them as shown in the picture.

The Daniel Boone is supplied with two Heat Deflectors.  The one with the high louvre goes on the right, the low louvre on the left.

The Jim Bowie has one, which goes on the right-hand side.

You may experiment with the orientation of the Heat Deflectors  to customise your grill heat distribution. This could include moving one or both away from the heat shield, or removing one/both.

How do i install my side tray?
Picture
Picture
  1. Line up the bullets with the pins on the side of the grill and slide to the right.  If needs be, lubricate the pins with a small amount of cooking oil.
  2. Lift the side tray support up underneath the side tray and push the side tray down to snap it into place.

IMPORTANT: If you purchased a cover for your grill, you will need to fold the tray down to install it.
what condition will my gmg pellet grill arrive in?
Everything is done to ensure that it will arrive in perfect condition!

GMG pellet grills are packed in hard polyfoam padding, encased in a sturdy cardboard carton; Daniel Boone and Jim Bowie cartons are shipped on pallets, the Davy Crockett by reputable courier, e.g. UPS, DHL.

In the unlikley event that the carton arrives in a condition that could reasonably indicate damage to the goods inside. take photos of the damaged carton and inform the driver that you are rejecting the delivery due to visual identification of unreasonable damage.  Inform you dealer immediately, sending them copies of the photos.  Your dealer will arrange a new delivery with you.  This does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

The parts for assembly are wrapped in bubblepack, and shipped inside the oven cavity.  It is possible that the interior of the grill might sustain some minor scratching if parts move during transit. In the unlikley event of this happening, any such scratches will not affect the performance or durability of your pellet grill - within a very short period of time they will be coated by 'protective seasoning' (smoke and grease).

My low pellet alarm beeps constantly
First, check if the Low Pellet Alarm Sensor (shown as yellow in picture) is exposed because you're running low on pellets.  If you are, top-up the hopper with pellets.  If you're not low on pellets, please view the video tutorial below.

Replacement

WARNING: To prevent the risk of electric shock, disconnect the unit from its electricity source before you start looking at any parts.
WARNING: Do not work on a hot grill - risk of burning.

What is the proper way to install the grease bucket?
Hang the grease bucket on the hook underneath the side tray table on the right. If you like, you may line the grease bucket with foil for easy cleaning.
How do i correctly install the chimney?
To install chimney you will need a 10mm wrench or socket. Tighten chimney securely to the side of the grill. Make sure that the white/silver gasket goes between the chimney and the grill itself.
the combustion fan does not seem to be working properly
In normal operation the combustion fan turns itself on and off throughout cooking as part of the unit's termperature control management - some compare the sound to that of  a 'wheezing dragon' (although we're unsure of their frame of reference!).

Signs that the combustion fan may not be working properly include a weak flame and or the unit not coming up to temperature, or doing so very slowly.  Or an absence of 'wheezing dragon' sounds.

WARNING: To prevent the risk of electric shock, disconnect the unit from its electricity source before you start looking at any parts.
WARNING: Do not work on a hot grill - risk of burning.

  1. Disconnect the unit from its electricity source; ensure the unit is cool.
  2. Using your finger, flick the fan to be sure that it spins freely and does not appear to have any visible damage.
  3. The blue wires located inside the white sheath shown here, operate the combustion fan. Check to be sure those connections are secure and are not melted or burned.
  4. If there is no visible damage to the combustion fan or wires, please call technical support at 0800 644 4141.
  5. If your combustion fan or wiring appears to be damaged and If your problem is covered under Warranty, please contact the dealer you purchased it from.  If not, simply either buy one online or contact your dealer.

the auger is jamming
Are your grill and hopper lid both closed? If they are and the auger is still not feeding pellets, please read on.

Take a look at the little white fan attached to the end of the auger motor as seen in the picture.
  • Is that fan moving as you have a desired temperature set higher than the current temperature showing on the control board?
  • Can you hear the motor running?

If you answered yes to both of these questions, see if you can spin the white fan a few rotations.

Sometimes a pellet may “bridge” and cause a bind inside the auger.

If this did not fix your issue, please call 0800 644 4141
Picture
the grill is making a clicking sound
It is possible that the grey wire underneath the hopper may shift while in transit, or when you move your grill around at home.

Take a look underneath your grill for the grey wire and simply move it away from your auger fan blade. This will end the clicking noise.
Picture
how much smoke should my grill be putting out?
When your grill goes through its start-up process, it is not unusual to see a great deal of smoke especially when the fans start the fire.

Once you reach the default temperature of 150 degrees, you are in a smoke setting. Traditional smoke settings swill go up to 225 degrees.

In this range of temperatures, you will see a steady flow of smoke as the grill is feeding more pellets into the firebox at the loss of temperature.

As your grill is maintaining temps, you will not see as much smoke.

As you increase the temperature controller above 225 all the way up to 500 degrees, you will see even less smoke as you reach into barbecue temperatures and above.

Picture
Your Green Mountain Grill can smoke more than this.
Note: Generally, you get more smoke at lower temps than at high ones. That being said, pellets burn pretty efficiently because of their shape and density and will not produce as much smoke as a stick burner.
there's no power showing on my display
WARNING: To prevent the risk of electric shock, disconnect the unit from its electricity source before you start looking at any parts.

Inconsitent or No Power

My unit has no power or inconsistent power.
  1. Disconnect the unit from its electricity source; ensure the unit is cool.
  2. Unscrew the 2 tiny Philips head screws on the front control panel (shown in picture) and pull the control panel out towards you. You may let the panel hang.
  3. Take a look on the back of the “Power” switch and make sure the wire clips have not come loose like the one in the photo.

If the problem persists, check the fuse

  1. Disconnect the unit from its electricity source; ensure the unit is cool.
  2. One of the red wires coming from the main plug on the control board has a black fuse holder (shown in picture).
  3. Using two hands rotate the fuse holder counter clockwise until it opens.
  4. Inspect that the fuse is not burnt, broken, and that the filament is intact.

If this still hasn't solved the problem, please call technical support at 1-800-603-3398.

How do i clear my auger?
Sometimes if a grill is left out in the weather for a prolonged period of time, any pellets left inside the auger tube may absorb moisture and harden into a concrete-like substance. If this happens, you will likely need to clear out your auger tube.

But before taking apart the hopper assembly, it's a good idea to first try a couple of faster methods to clear the tube.

  • Ensuring first that the grill and parts are not hot, take out the grease tray and heat shields.
  • Put the grill in cycle 0 (turn the unit on), and tap lightly on the auger tube with either a hammer, or a similar device.
  • Sometimes this is enough to free up whatever is jamming the auger.

  • If the auger hasn’t fed any pellets by cycle 1, switch off the grill.
  • While the grill is unplugged, empty the pellets out of the hopper until you can see the auger, (see photo)
  • Plug in your grill and try again.

If neither of these work, move onto the next instructions.

Auger Removal

TOOLS
  • 10 mm wrench.
  • Philips-head screwdriver.

STEPS

  1. Disconnect the unit from its electricity source; ensure the unit is cool.
  2. Take all pellets out of the hopper (if not already out).
  3. Remove the two Philips-head screws from the control panel (see photo).
  4. Pull the temperature control out and remove both plugs from the top corners.
  5. Next, pull apart the white multiplug behind the temperature control. Set the controller off to the side.
  6. Using the 10 mm wrench, unscrew the 4 bolts which hold the pellet hopper.
  7. Gently slide the hopper up and off to the left, placing it on either a bucket, or chair (or anything else comparable). (see photo) Be careful not to pull any wires too far.
  8. Locate the cotter-pin which connects the auger motor to the auger. Straighten out the free ends of the pin, and pull it out of the hole (see photo).
  9. Next, you’ll unscrew the two 10 mm bolts which hold the motor bracket in place (see photo). Once these are out, gently set the motor off to the side.
  10. At this point, you are free to maneuver the auger in order to free it up. Many times, just sticking a screwdriver through the cotter-pin hole will give you enough torque to unjam the auger(see photo). You may also grab onto the end of the auger with vice grips, and attempt to free it that way.
  11. Once the jam is cleared, you may put the grill back together. This is exactly the opposite of removal.
  12. Before operation, ensure that the auger tube is primed with pellets.
